Last weekend, a few friends and I stole away to The Gin Cabin upstate for a sweet mountain retreat. We explored the nearby town of Livingston Manor, completed a puzzle, got stranded on an icey driveway, and then rescued from said driveway by state troopers and a whole lot of pushing. Thank you Officers Dan & José!
Somewhere in the flurry of it all, we whipped up a birthday breakfast to remember (pictured above!). If you know me, you may know that I prefer to celebrate my half birthday on August 10, but I made an exception just this once. Can we also note the dining accoutrements that came with the cabin? We love a well-appointed home!
Speaking of which, I have an exciting project in the works with the cabin owner + interior designer, Nicole, that I can't wait to share with you in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
1 // Bais Candle
This scent was first a gift to my dear friend Kayla (she has the room spray!) and was then gifted to me by my upstairs neighbor, Andi. I had this candle burning during the Meg 1994 photoshoot and the team was messaging me after for the link. Best smell!
2 // Morning Ice
My little skincare secret for first thing in the morning is - I kid you not - whiskey ice cubes. Our freezer is an arms length from the bathroom, so after a shower, I'll pop a cube out of the mold and use the edge like a gua sha across my face. Great for depuffing and circulation!
3 // Cashew Yogurt
Adorn a scoop of this with fresh fruit, your crunch of choice, and some cacao nibs. My go to breakfast as of late!
4 // On the Nightstand
For those of you reading along last month, Where All Good Flappers Go was a breezy bedtime read full of one-off stories from the 20's. I am currently working my way through Creative Acts for Curious People and am interested to see how the thoughts from Stanford's d.school will works it's way into my everyday. Next up, Inside a Pearl by Edmund White!
5 // Accented with accessories
What one may lack in wardrobe choices during the winter season in NYC can be made up for with accessories. My outfit accent of choice has been this stunner from Spartina. I have also been loving these!
6 // Hot, Cold, Repeat
This morning, Jake and I made our way through the Bathhouse up in Flatiron. We went from hot tubs to cold pools, steam rooms to saunas and even pushed through our very first Aufguss! It was exhilarating, exhausting, and had us both down for the count. Ha!
7 // Worth the download
Recently I was introduced to Yuka, a free mobile app that allows you to scan the barcodes of food and personal care products and instantly see their impact on your health. I ran through the SOHO Sephora last week scanning my go-to purchases, and let's just say, we are making some changes in the Indy household.
8 // Phone calls with Hayley
As you may know, my friend Hayley and I recently launched the Founders Society, curated getaways and gatherings for creative entrepreneurs. We hosted our first retreat in Rosemary last month, and this month we've been on the phone - a lot. Let's just say there are some big announcements on the horizon. Feel free to join us for the journey @founderssociety!
9 // Livingston Manor
When staying at The Big Gin Cabin, we moseyed to the nearby eclectic town of Livingston Manor. From the hot honey biscuits at the Walk-In to the artisanal goods dotting the shelves at the Main Street Farm, this quaint blip on the map is well worth the stop. I feel an itinerary in the Indy Edit's future...
10 // Tulips + Totes
For unrelated reasons, our apartment was overtaken by tulips and totes this month. The tulips were from a painting workshop and I find myself continuously amazed by how they dance around in the vase. These may just be my favorite flower of all time.
As for totes, I painted over 100 of them for the SS24 collaboration. If you pre-order a piece from the collection, there may or may not be a tote slipped into your parcel wink wink.
Until next time,
Meg
